With the recent elections, the commitments of the Paris climate talks and the city’s push towards renewables with David Chernushenko at the helm, we have a new political landscape at the federal level and are faced with a rare window of opportunity on which we need to capitalize on.
The City of Ottawa needs to transition towards a 100% renewable future, and there is no room for a massive expansion of the tar sands in this future. The proposed Energy Pipeline would put our land and water at risk and sabotage Canada’s ability to do our fair share to fight climate change. Therefore, we want the City of Ottawa to adopt a 100% renewable vision, like other leading cities have done such as Vancouver has done, and we want the city, the province and the federal government to say no to the proposed energy east pipeline.
The first step in moving towards this goal is to organize meeting between communities and their elected officials at all levels to let them know what their constituents want. For this, we need you, leaders of the climate movement, and opponents of the Energy East pipeline.
This meeting is intended to see who is on board with this approach, to get your input, and to start the process to have local volunteers organize meetings between your communities and your elected officials.
